Scholarships
The NAASC Chicago Chapter is proud to sponsor three scholarships available to current Spelman College students who hail from the Chicagoland area and are in need of emergency financial assistance. Each of these scholarships were named in honor of an alumna member of NAASC Chicago who made a significant contribution to our alma mater and the community at-large. Through our scholarship fund, the NAASC Chicago Chapter has been able to financially support Spelman women for more than 30 years.
Georgia Dwelle Scholarship
Georgia Dwelle (C'1900) was the first Spelman alumna to receive a Doctor of Medicine degree. This scholarship was established to honor Dwelle's tireless commitment to the improvement of women's healthcare in Atlanta and Chicago by assisting young women in their pursuit of an education at Spelman College. An annual scholarship for a minimum of $2000 is distributed by Spelman College to a Chicagoland sophomore, junior or senior that meets the GPA requirements. Please contact the Office of Donor Relations at Spelman College to apply for the scholarship.
Lois Davenport Fambro Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor Lois Davenport Fambro (C'30) and her long-term commitment to the NAASC Chicago Chapter. Fambro was a dedicated and steadfast member that demonstrated Spelman Sisterhood in her words and her deeds. Fambro was a key organizer of the NAASC Chicago Chapter as it transitioned from the 'Spelman Club'. An emergency fund exists in her name to assist Chicagoland Spelmanites that have an acute need. Minnie Jackson Scholarship
The Minnie Jackson Scholarship was originally funded by its namesake's daughter, Janet Lane Martin, and Jackson's granddaughters, each of whom attended Spelman College. Each year, NAASC Chicago Chapter contributes $1000 to the scholarship fund, which is maintained by the Office of Donor Relations at Spelman College. Please contact the Office of Donor Relations at Spelman College directly to apply for the scholarship.
